The crossing of Mauritania will have left a lasting impression on La Croisière Verte team, for several reasons.
The vastness of the desert and the almost permanent heat that the team experienced while crossing a small part of Mauritania will remain engraved in their memories for a long time to come. During the crossing, Éric often thought of what André Citroën’s men must have experienced, at a time when there were no tracks and even fewer roads. Crossing such inhospitable terrain must have required a degree of courage that is hard to imagine today.
The team also met Hamed, a local who had never welcomed a stranger in his life, who invited them to spend the evening and night at his home. From a technical point of view, everything worked perfectly. Apart from a minor problem with one of the shock absorbers on Kamal’s car, which the team quickly resolved, the four Citroën AMI cars continued on their way. And above all… A first autonomy record was set on this expedition: the vehicles covered 572 km on a single charge.
It has to be said that the conditions in Mauritania were ideal, with a little tailwind to boot!
